Hello and Welcome :]

To commemorate the beginning of my new art blog, I'd like to announce the events of this past weekend. My mom and I entered  the Public Ice Challenge at Winterlude 2011. About 10 teams of amateurs got 3 hours to sculpt something out of a 1m x50x25 cm ice block. It was terrifying. But amazing once we started. Sculpting ice is unlike anything else. It's beautiful and so natural, you get the hang of it so quickly.  I will absolutely do this again one day. We didn't win, unfortunately, but it was mostly because we weren't aware that the winner was chosen by the loudest cheers and we didn't bring a fan club like the other teams. Anyways, we didn't care that we lost, we feel like we did an amazing job (the pro ice sculptors thought so too :]), and it was the best of mom & daughter quality time.
Beginning cuts of the block and panic (most of all because there was an unanticipated crowd...)

PROGRESS.

Oh hot damn, almost finished.

VOILA. Masterpiece :3

The artists and their twisted cello/violin :]

Epicness achieved in 3 hour period. Hell yeah.

  1. Conceiving and sculpting our "Twisted Viola" was an amazing experience.
Manu's hands were as always, sensitive and wise. They knew where to cut, where to carve, where to stop, where to soften.
It was a beautiful thing to see our hands talking in the same language and reading our minds as if they were just one.

I love Manu's hands. They are an extension of her amazing dreams.
