Oodles of Doodles :3

So, from the finished product, the best of the best, to the very basics: my sketches. There is nothing more important to an artist than his sketchbook. It's where our thoughts become reality. Being able to put our imaginings on paper is so amazing; creation at its purest form. Our sketchbooks are our diaries and journals, they help us get stress out, express ourselves... This sketchbook isn't very old, it started out as a ceramics assignment in grade 11, but I kept it with me and I've tried my best to fill it up. Some of them are observations, others ideas, and others are just weird cravings to draw specific things xD
A Note: these are not in order. Why? I'm not sure, but whatever xD
And remember to click on the images for close-ups :]

Brainstring on Eve, which started out as my Independent Project for my application to Ottawa U (Subject: Eggs)

Brainstorming for Adam :]

Weird urges to draw birds and horses xD

Horses!
I love drawing them. They're beautiful animals, the movement, the muscles, the expression of their facesjhesbfl Catnip for artists <3

Auditorium+Boredom+Sketchbook= Awesomeness
Pretty much the only drawing in here that isn't pencil; Felt tip marker.

More horsies :3

Aaaand some more birds....

I got a bit obsessed with history during Ancient Civilization class, so here are the Hanging Gardens of Babylon :] I would've loved to go see them if they still existed...jgrkdrfgv

These were some ideas for the wing structure of my wire Dragon and a drawing of an awesooome sculpture.

And here are some studies of the awesome sculpture. And my hand. You'll see lots of my hand. Like... LOTS.

See? There are some moooore hands. And a Mayan King on his throne. Which happens to have cougar heads as armrests. Epic? I think so.

Geez, some more birds. I really do like drawing them, though. This one is nice and tropical :] A Macaw. Or Guacamaya in Spanish :D

My epic Roman foot soldier >3 Aaaaand copious amounts of hands. LOTS of hands xDD
This is one of my favourite pages of my sketchbook :]

These were brainstorms for my Dragon, a lot of sketching and planning went into this one. Mostly because dragons are reeaaally awesome to draw xD

Really, really awesome to draw xDD

And this one was a sculpture that never happened, an epic giraffe. Maybe one day :]

Best of the Best

So, with the excitement of having this thing up and running, I've decided to put up some of my best pieces :]
Over the past few years I've discovered that my best strength is ceramics and sculpture; pretty much 3D work. These are the pieces for which I've stayed at school till 8pm to work on, for which I've gotten excellent marks and for which my family and friends fight over to keep in the end xD <33
Click on the pictures for close-ups!

My Spotted Griffin from grade 9 :] Experimenting with texture and glaze.

Freeing Music from grade 10. My first 100% for my concept and work with wires.

Life Studies from grade 11, sculpted from a live model which was a great experience, though weird at first.

My Dragon  from grade 11, which is currently in Colombia. I sold it for my ticket to Europe! djsfhgbelsjk

My Blossoming Phoenix from grade 12. A bit of a sister statue to my dragon, for the wire sculpture in the wings.

Fall of Man, the original Adam from my Adam &Eve. I found him on the floor shattered one morning after I had left him out to dry. I had a bit of a panic attack, and I cried all morning. I was going around school with mascara all down my face, which is unfortunate and kinda awkward. ANYWHO, I didn't give up though, I salvaged this and I made it into my own marble bust :D

Adam & Eve, grade 12, my greatest achievement :] not only for the development of the concept, but also for the technicality of the sculptures themselves.
I mean no disrespect to anyone with this piece, It is just my take on a famous story and letting my imagination run free.
It's a twist on the story of Adam & Eve, (the Book of Genesis) a statement on the negative image that the bible has given women (fall of men, sin, temptation, sexuality, consciousness, etc), and how women are truly the creators; Mother Nature.

I'll be putting up more of my pieces as time goes by :]

Hello and Welcome :]

To commemorate the beginning of my new art blog, I'd like to announce the events of this past weekend. My mom and I entered  the Public Ice Challenge at Winterlude 2011. About 10 teams of amateurs got 3 hours to sculpt something out of a 1m x50x25 cm ice block. It was terrifying. But amazing once we started. Sculpting ice is unlike anything else. It's beautiful and so natural, you get the hang of it so quickly.  I will absolutely do this again one day. We didn't win, unfortunately, but it was mostly because we weren't aware that the winner was chosen by the loudest cheers and we didn't bring a fan club like the other teams. Anyways, we didn't care that we lost, we feel like we did an amazing job (the pro ice sculptors thought so too :]), and it was the best of mom & daughter quality time.
Beginning cuts of the block and panic (most of all because there was an unanticipated crowd...)

PROGRESS.

Oh hot damn, almost finished.

VOILA. Masterpiece :3

The artists and their twisted cello/violin :]

Epicness achieved in 3 hour period. Hell yeah.
